This fine alpaca cardigan is as soft as thistledown, comfortable worn over a shirt, fashionable over a close-fitting long-sleeved shirt and casually elegant under a sports jacket. It goes equally well with jeans and chinos, tweed jackets and business separates. The alpaca wool with its silky sheen is hardwearing, warm, always comfortable and easy to wear. It is resistant to pilling and absorbs practically no odours – ideal for a garment you’ll want to wear again and again.
The fewer seams the better.
The plain purl stitch is knitted from side to side in a single piece. This accounts for the interesting vertical structure, but also means that fewer seams are required. Measuring only millimetres, the seams are sewn by hand – the only way to make them so flat that they are barely visible. The button panel and double edging on the revers, armholes and the 2 sleek, flat welt pockets are knitted using firm, smooth stitches so they keep their shape. The shoulder seams are turned under and sewn invisibly by hand, giving this nostalgic sleeveless cardigan its perfect appearance, even on the inside.
