The jeans belt for life.
Thanks to traditional pit tanning almost indestructible. By Ludwig Schröder, leather goods since 1825.
Ludwig Schröder relies on regional partners such as the tannery of the Kobel brothers, founded in 1877 in Kellinghusen, northern Germany. It is one of the last remaining to carry out the time-consuming and costly pit tanning. In contrast to modern fast tanning, in which the leather is soaked for several days in a barrel, this leather is left hanging in the bark tanning liquid. It takes 2 months to take up the tannins. Slow and intense.
Pure nature. Free of chemicals and dyes.
The solution for the vegetable tanning is made according to traditional recipes – with extracts of bark, wood, leaves and fruits. Finally, waxing gives the surface a gentle sheen.
Robust. Casual. Stylish.
Depending on how long your belt is stored, the shade can be a bit lighter or darker, because the natural leather darkens with time. Under the influence of light, sun and skin contact, a beautiful, characterful patina is developed over the years.
Hard-wearing thanks to its high oil content.
During the tanning process, the leather is impregnated with particularly high-quality oils, which give the belt its typical character and unmistakable feel. It brightens over time and encourages light marks especially around holes and at creases, and is therefore valued by connoisseurs as a quality feature. Finally, the high oil content makes the leather so hard-wearing (and also so cold-resistant) that it is even used for horse bridles.
